Disaster Preparedness Information

Disasters can force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. Roads, water, gas, electricity and telephone service may be cut off.

If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays your community's first responders, are you prepared to go it alone for at least 72 hours?

For more information on emergency preparedness or to schedule a FREE safety survey of your property contact the Authority at (623) 544-5400.

 Make A Plan

Make a Disaster Plan
  • Meet with your family, neighbors, co-workers and schools to create a plan, share responsibilities and work together as a team.
  • Pick two places to meet: Have an "out-of-state contact" for family members to call:
    • outside your home, in case of a sudden emergency or
    • outside your neighborhood, in case you can't return home.
  • Post emergency numbers and teach children how to call 9-1-1 for assistance.
  • Conduct fire and emergency evacuation drills.
  • Consider food and shelter for pets.

Please follow the links in the Index below for more Disaster Preparedness information.

Make a Kit
Your family should have some basic supplies on hand in order to survive for at least three days if an emergency occurs.

Visit the Arizona Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Website to learn how to make emergency kits and for other valuable resources.

 Community Information & Notification Systems

 Disaster / Emergency Preparedness Training

The Arizona Fire & Medical Authority want to help community members get Ready. The focus of the “Are You Ready?” emergency preparedness awareness training program is to help prepare community members in case there is an emergency or disaster in our community. Whether community members stay in their home or evacuate will depend on the incident but the most important factor either way is that they must be prepared. Having a plan, communicating that plan with family members, preparing an emergency supply kit, and preparing our homes for emergency situations is essential.

 Emergency Preparedness Videos

In order to encourage Americans to prepare themselves, their families and their communities, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in partnership with The Advertising Council, has created instructional videos to help educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies.

The first set of instructional videos are designed to detail how American families get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, and be informed about the different types of emergencies in their community.
