Operations / Community Risk Management Division

The Operations Section responsibilities include the following:
The daily operations and deployment are led by three (3) battalion chiefs in each of the Authority's three districts. The battalion chiefs supervise all of the personnel, stations, and incidents within the Authority. Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel work 48 hours on, 96 hours off and change shifts at 8 a.m. every other day.

Daily, the Authority's service areas are staffed with over 81 trained personnel ready to respond to any type of emergency. The Authority currently staffs10 Paramedic Engine Companies, 1 Paramedic Ladder Company and 16 Paramedic Ambulance Units 24 hours per day / 7 days per week. All Operation / Deployment personnel are either Paramedics or EMT’s that are trained to provide Basic or Advanced Life Support for any medical emergency within its 12 strategically located fire stations.

In addition to responding to fires, medical calls, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, and other emergencies, the Operation / Deployment personnel are also responsible for conducting fire prevention inspections within their first-due response area; developing pre-fire plans of businesses and apartment complexes; participating in continuing education and skills training; maintaining their equipment and station; presenting public education messages at community events and conducting station tours.
