  William "Bill" Becker (Chairman)

Biography:
Bill and his wife, Jeanne, have lived in Sun Lakes, AZ for the past seven years and before that in Gilbert for fifteen years, after moving from Massachusetts, where he was the English Department Chair at a suburban high school for twenty-seven years. After moving to Arizona, Bill reentered the work force as an English teacher and then as the Head of Teacher Evaluations for a local online high school for seven more years before retiring.

After retiring, Bill was elected to serve on the original Sun Lakes Fire District Governing Board, as well as a member of the Sun Lakes Country Club’s Food & Beverage Committee and Chairman of the Sun Lakes Country Club’s Long-Range Planning Committee. Bill volunteered for four years at the Sheriff’s Posse’ Recycling Program, and he is currently serving as President of the Sun Lakes Community Theatre. In their spare time, Bill and Jeanne have traveled throughout the US and Europe. Bill enjoyed serving on the previous Fire District Governing Board and he plans to continue to support the growth and progress of the new South County Fire & Medical District as an important partner of the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority.

  John Crawford (Clerk)

Biography:
Dr. John E. Crawford and his wife Merrie have been residents of Sun Lakes, AZ since 1998. Dr. Crawford has served on the Sun Lakes Fire District Governing Board since November 2008 and on the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority Governing Board since 2018. Dr. Crawford was re-elected in 2020.

Dr. Crawford retired from Arizona State University and the Hugh Downs School of Communication in 2001, which ended his twenty-one-year tenure as a professor specializing in conflict management. Dr. Crawford transitioned to full time work as a jury consultant with Landsburg and Associates and as a communication consultant working with a wide range of clients. That work took him around the country and occupied his professional life until he fully retired in 2016.

Dr. Crawford and his wife are very active in the Sun Lakes Community Theatre and keep busy with a host of social clubs—golf and tennis specifically. Dr. Crawford and Merrie have one child and struggle to visit with the Philadelphia Crawfords as often as possible. They also heed the call to world travel on occasion.

  Jack Arend

Biography:

Jack originally moved with his family to the Tonopah area in 1940 and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1961-1964 as an aircraft mechanic. During Jack’s career with the Arizona Public Service Company, Jack transferred to the Cholla Power Plant near Holbrook, AZ and served as a maintenance supervisor.  After formally retiring in 1994, Jack managed the Holbrook Airport and decided in 2001 to move back to Tonopah area. 

Jack has served on the Tonopah Valley Community Council for six years, and the former Tonopah Valley Fire Board for eight years. Jack is excited to continue to serve the Tonopah community on the South County Fire & Medical District Governing Board.

Jack and his wife Karen have been married for 57 years and have three children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

  Karen Gueltzow

Biography:
Karen served as a Board Member for the Tonopah Valley Fire District prior to merging with the Sun Lakes Fire District to create the South County Fire & Medical District, a member of the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority. Karen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and in her early California career served as a Flight Nurse in the U.S. Military, Public Health nurse for San Bernardino County, nurse practitioner at Patton State Hospital and in Sacramento as a personnel analyst.  In 1975 she was on the Inland Counties Comprehensive Health Planning Council. Karen moved to Arizona in 1991 and worked as a Health & Safety Director at Arizona State Hospital, retiring from the Maricopa County Integrated Health System in 2009. Karen and her husband Robert have two children and two grandchildren.

  Diane Price

Biography:
Diane was born and raised in Southern California. Her schooling and professional background are in marketing and sales. After raising their family, Diane's husband, Bob, retired from Ventura County Fire Department in 1989 and they moved to Ahwatukee. In 1996, they built their forever home in Sun Lakes. In 2000, Diane was one of the six founding members of the Community Assistance Program (CAP) with the Sun Lakes Fire Department. Diane was elected to serve on the Sun Lakes Fire District Governing Board in 2006. She and the other elected board members worked with the North County Fire & Medical District Governing Board to form the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority. In her leisure time, Diane serves as President of the Sun Lakes Arts & Crafts Association and is a Board Member of the Arizona Chapter of the ALS Association, and is a registered advocate for ALS.  Diane enjoys painting ceramics with her friends and her passions are reading, discussing current events, and traveling with family & friends. Spending time with her daughter, granddaughter, and 2 fur babies, are what keeps that smile on her face that she is known for.
